Ultrafiltration UF Membrane

Ultrafiltration UF Membrane

Reliable and Efficient Water Purification with UF Membranes

What is Ultrafiltration (UF)?
Ultrafiltration (UF) is a low-pressure membrane filtration process designed to treat water and wastewater by effectively removing suspended solids, colloids, bacteria, and viruses. This process operates at a typical pressure range of 3 to 8 barg (300 to 800 kPa), with a pore size range of 0.05 to 0.1 microns.

The UF membrane is commonly designed in a hollow fiber configuration, where the feed water flows either inside-out or outside-in of the fibers. UF membranes are ideal for removing large particles, colloids, and high molecular weight solutes, while allowing water and smaller solutes to pass through.

Unlike traditional filtration methods that require chemical-intensive coagulation, flocculation, and settling operations, UF systems are compact, modular, and sustainable, making them highly efficient. Typically, UF is used as a pretreatment step for Nanofiltration (NF) or Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems, enhancing the overall water treatment process.

Industrial Applications of UF Membrane Systems
Ultrafiltration is used in various industries for efficient water purification and wastewater treatment:

Water Treatment Plants
  • Sewage Treatment Plants
  • Industrial Effluent Treatment Plants
  • Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD)
  • Seawater Desalination
