SEPION Forward Osmosis Membrane

Sustainable and Reliable Wastewater Recyling and ZLD using FO Technology

What is Forward Osmosis (FO) and How it Works?

Forward Osmosis (FO) is an advanced membrane separation process that uses a concentration gradient to generate water flow. Specific arrangement of the FO membrane across the feed and concentration gradient triggering draw solution allows the dewatering, concentration, separation, or purification of valuable feed sources while producing fresh water with low energy and pressure.

In FO, the water recovery is achieved using a concentrated draw solution to generate a concentration gradient across the membrane, which gives recovered water mixed with the draw solution. Essentially, FO requires a subsequent draw solution regeneration step where the separation of product water and draw solution is accomplished. The draw recovery section is an essential step for the continuity of integrated operation in FO.

SEPION Forward Osmosis Features and Advantages

GreenPebble Tech manufactures, and deploys proprietary SEPION hollow fiber Forward Osmosis membrane and membrane systems - for applications such as ZLD, wastewater treatment, and recycling, seawater desalination, industrial effluent treatment plants, etc.

We use a proprietary arrangement of membrane system along with FO to recover product water and reconcentrate the draw solution. Depending on the feed source, inlet quality parameters, and overall treatment goals, we customize the plant configuration to regenerate draw solution including RONF or membrane distillation (MD).

Our commercial plant installations showed successful outcomes for our clients in achieving around 70-80% of wastewater recovery and a 50% reduction in energy consumption.

Main advantages of GreenPebble's SEPION FO membrane is as follows:

- superior quality product water (removing dissolved organics, TDS, microbes, micropollutants)

- compact operational footprint

- reliable operation

- minimal fouling, scaling and operational disruptions

- energy-efficient process operations

Forward Osmosis Process

The FO system functions through a two-step treatment process utilizing FO membranes. In the first step, the draw solution pulls water from the feed stream, and in the second step the draw solution becomes concentrated as it retrieves product water.

The FO membrane facilitates an immediate concentration difference when using the draw solution. This specially designed FO is highly resistant to scaling and fouling, allowing it to effectively treat even the most complex industrial wastewater.

The integration of a proprietary draw solution with an efficient draw recovery stage provides a comprehensive solution for recovering product water and recycling the draw solution with maximum efficiency.
